This evening – Sunday, February 3, 2019 – at about 8:00 pm, the Tufts University Police Department received a call of a past breaking and entering at a house on College Ave in Somerville, MA. The residents, Tufts University students, advised that they were at a neighbor’s home this evening between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 pm. Upon returning to their residence later in the evening they discovered items missing from their home. It was later determined that entry was gained through an unlocked door.
An area search for a suspect was conducted by Tufts University and Somerville Police. Neither was located. Somerville Police are actively investigating, with assistance from Tufts University Police. Both departments have stepped up patrols in the area.

Although victims/survivors of crimes are never at fault for crimes that happen to them, TUPD recommends the following safety precautions and risk reduction strategies:
Always secure doors and windows.
Make sure door, window and screen locks are in working order and immediately address deficiencies.
Turn on exterior lighting after dark.
