On May 7, 2019 at approximately 11:45 pm the Tufts University Police Department received a report of an assault and battery which had occurred at approximately 20 minutes earlier.The Tufts student reported while walking on Frederick Ave, in Medford an unknown male approached her from behind and grabbed her, in bear hug fashion around the upper torso and waist area.  The student was able to escape from the assailant and run to safety. The suspect fled the area. The victim was not physically injured.

The Tufts, Medford, Somerville police conducted an area search and was unable to locate the suspect.

The victim described the suspect as:

6 feet tall male, wearing all dark clothing, and reflective sneakers.

While those who commit such crimes are fully responsible for those acts, TUPD would like to remind all to:

  • Be alert to your surroundings, reporting suspicious persons or circumstances to the Tufts Police immediately at x66911 or 617-627-6911 from a cell phone, or call 911 for off campus incidents.
  • Trust your instincts, if someone seems suspicious, avoid them.
  • Stick to well-lit and well-travelled routes and walk with friends whenever possible.
