Over the past 18 months the Department of Public and Environmental Safety (DPES) worked collaboratively with university community members and a subject matter expert to develop a university-wide policy governing the use and placement of video security on all Tufts domestic campuses, the first phase of a multi-year Video Security on Campus project.
The approved policy is comprehensive, has been shaped by community input, and includes industry best practices in higher education. The policy governs the installation and use of video security on our campuses while protecting privacy and individual liberties. Earlier this year the policy was reviewed by the President’s Staff Council and approved by Academic and Administrative Councils. In July 2014, DPES’s Deputy Chief Linda O’Brien and her staff will begin the process of formally inventorying and bringing into compliance the video security systems that were installed throughout the university prior to now, expecting to complete this portion of the project by December 31, 2014.
