Communications Center

Help in a Hurry | Emergency Number | Blue-Light Telephones | Panic Buttons | Fire Pull-Stations | Communications Center

The heart of the emergency notification system is the University Police Communications Center. The Medford/Somerville center, pictured below, is in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year, and is capable of receiving all telephone and alarm signals for all campuses. Smaller centers on the Boston and Grafton campuses operate 7 AM to 11 PM and 9 AM to 5 PM, respectively.

From the seat below, a trained dispatcher monitors alarm systems, receives emergency and non-emergency telephone calls, and communicates via radio with police officers, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and even Facilities tradespersons on all three domestic campuses. The University Police also work closely with municipal entities, maintaining dedicated communications paths with neighboring law enforcement agencies. Connectivity to the state Criminal Justice Information Systems and National Crime Information Center puts the latest law enforcement data immediately available. And for the safety and security of the community, our most critical systems are redundant and capable of battery or generator operation.
