Supplemental Security Force

Campus Security Officers (CSOs)

CSOs are full/part-time non-sworn security officers. Their primary responsibilities include foot patrol in designated areas using an electronic watchtour system, checking buildings for propped doors and open windows, providing escort/lockout services to students as well as testing security/panic alarms and emergency phones. They are another set of "eyes and ears" for the police officers. The part-time Campus Security Officers may be both students and non-students working primarily evening hours.

Contract Security Officers

Contract security officers are non-sworn security personnel who are used primarily at interior fixed positions at various buildings on campus. Contract security officers work for a private security firm contracted by the university to provide such services.

Program Profile

Office Watch

Office Watch is a crime prevention program that is based on similar philosophies as that of a neighborhood watch program. The goal of Office Watch is to reduce the opportunities to commit crime by enlisting a cooperative effort between the Tufts community and Tufts University Police. This mission will be accomplished by establishing a formal network of communication between university departments, their personnel and campus police. We are asking everyone to take an active role in crime prevention by being the "eyes and ears" of the community. It is essential that everyone assert a vested interest in their own security and of those that share the building.
