Reminders for Halloween

As we approach Halloween, we want to remind all students that accessing the rooftop of a University building is dangerous and prohibited. In years past, a small number of students have placed pumpkins in dangerously high places on campus. Many of the roofs on campus are unsafe for people to walk on and could be damaged by a person on the surface. Because it is unsafe, Tufts prohibits access to all roofs on campus without specific training, authorization, and safety measures in place. The Tufts Police will have an increased presence on campus during the week of Halloween. The Dean of Student Affairs Office will be following up with any students found responsible for violating the Roof Access policy or other parts of the Code of Conduct.

As a rule of thumb, pumpkins may be placed in areas where:

  • There is no violation of the Code of Conduct
  • There is no violation of the Roof Access policy
  • There is no risk of serious injury
  • There is no possibility of damage to metallic or other finishes
