Timely warning, Breaking and Entering Near Medford/Somerville Campus

On Friday, February 17, 2017 at approximately 5:30 am the Tufts University  Police received a call of a breaking and entering at a house on Dearborn Ro ad in Somerville, MA. Tufts students, awakened to find a male in their basement apartment.  The victims believe that the suspect entered through an unlocked back door. When discovered the suspect said “I’m sorry”, then fled through the rear door.  No one in the house was harmed.

An area search for the suspect was conducted by TUPD, Somerville and Medford Police. The suspect was not located. Tufts University Police and the Somerville Police are actively investigating this incident and have increased patrols in the area.

The victims described the suspect as follows:

A male, thin build, approximately 6’2″ feet tall, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with his hood up and a white tee-shirt protruding beneath the bottom of his sweatshirt.

While victims of crime are never to blame for criminal activity, there are some precautions that can be taken.

Precautions:

* Always secure and lock your residence windows & doors and leave a lights on at your front and back porches.

* Report any suspicious person(s) or circumstances to the Tufts Police immediately at 617-627-6911 or at x6911 from a campus phone, or dial 911 for of= f campus emergencies.

* Program the Tufts Police emergency telephone number into your cell phone so you will be prepared in an emergency 617-627-6911.
