Safety Advisory – Indecent Exposure Incident Near the Medford Campus

On Tuesday, June 14, 2016, a Tufts University student reported that she was walking near the Tufts soccer field on College Avenue at approximately 2pm when she observed an unknown male exposing himself in a parked vehicle. The student said that at the time of the incident the suspect was sitting in an older model 4-door grey sedan. The victim described the suspect as a white male, 20 to 30 years of age, wearing a blue shirt.

The Tufts University Police Department and the Somerville Police Department responded to a similar incident in this area on May 14, 2016.  Both police departments are investigating these incidents and have increased patrols in the area.

Precautions:

While those who commit such crimes are fully responsible for those acts, the Tufts University Police Department recommends the following risk reduction and safety precautions:

  • Remain alert and observe people around you
  • Trust your instincts, if someone seems suspicious, avoid them
  • Program the Tufts Police into your cell phone so you will be prepared in an emergency (617-627-6911)
  • Report any suspicious or criminal activity to the Tufts Police immediately at  617-627-6911 or dial 911 for off campus emergencies
  • Utilize the SafeRide service by calling Tufts Police at X73030 (617-627-3030 from off-campus or cell phone)
