Information for Resident Advisors

Winter Storm Preparation

Pre-Storm:

  • Determine number of students who will remain in your building during the storm.
  • Notify Residential Life of that number.
  • Post all entrances and exits with storm related information.
  • Stay alert to updates, from Public Safety, Res. Life and Telecom.

During the Storm:

  • Communicate with students on a frequent basis any updated information. Remind them to avoid windows, and doors.
  • Report any injuries or building damage to Public Safety, as soon as possible.
  • Keep all students within the building during the storm.
  • Travel by emergency personnel will be limited during the storm.
  • Check all egress doors to ensure that piled snow will not prevent the door from opening completely.

Post Storm:

  • Verbal communication to students may be the only means of relaying information. Power outage maybe out for at least hours if not days. If heat is lost, emergency steps will be taken by the University to move and protect students and staff.
