Prevent fire incidents from happening to you by taking precautions to avoid the following:
Unattended/careless use of candles. Never leave candles burning unattended. Keep candles inside a one foot circle of safety, free from decorations and other combustibles.
Combustible materials too close to a heat source. Clothing and furnishings must not be placed closer than 3 feet from any portable space heater. Oil filled, radiated space heaters are the safest to use.
Unattended cooking. Cooking equipment is involved in over 100,000 home fires each year. Stay in the kitchen when you are grilling, frying or broiling food. Watch what you heat.
Improper/careless disposal of smoking materials. If you must smoke, smoke outside and make sure smoking materials are fully extinguished and disposed of in a metal container.
