Bomb Threat

Remember

DO NOT HANG UP, even if you think it's a prank! Remain calm.

Write down the exact wording of threats and pay attention to the caller's voice (gender, demeanor) and background noises (traffic, music, voices).

Ask a lot of questions, using the checklist provided below.

By Telephone

  • When is the bomb going to explode?
  • Where is it right now?
  • What does it look like?
  • What kind of bomb is it?
  • What will cause it to explode?
  • Did you place the bomb?
  • What is your address?
  • What is your name?

Caller's Voice:

  • Calm
  • Slow
  • Loud
  • Stutter
  • Rapid
  • Soft
  • Laughter
  • Disguised
  • Deep breathing
  • Accent
  • Lisp
  • Cracked
  • Cough
  • Nervous
  • Nasal
  • Raspy
  • Angry
  • Excited
  • Deep
  • Clearing throat
  • Normal
  • Distinct
  • Crying
  • Slurred
  • Ragged
  • Speech impediment
  • Whispering
  • Familiar (if so, who did it sound like)?

If Known:

  • Name of Caller
  • Number from which call originated
  • Male/female
  • Race
  • Approximate age
  • Number at which call was received
  • Time
  • Date
  • Exact wording of threats

Background Sounds:

In Case Of

FLOODING

Major flooding on campus would be the result of torrential rains, a water main failure, or from pipe freeze-ups.

Use extreme caution around appliances or electrical receptacles near the leak and/or water.

Evacuate from affected buildings and areas immediately.

Follow instructions from the Tufts Police, who are trained to help you.
