This class is designed for personnel who will be shipping chemicals.
There is separate training offered by TEHS for shipping biological materials.
The two and a half hour introductory training is required for all staff who package, ship and transport hazardous materials or dangerous goods. Hazardous materials and/or dangerous goods are articles or substances which are capable of posing a risk to health, safety, property or the environment and which are identified in the hazardous materials table, list of dangerous goods, or which are otherwise classified by the IATA/DOT regulations.
During the final 15 minutes of the session, participants complete a written examination (quiz) that will be reviewed in class. The topics covered include:
- Introduction to the Applicable Regulations
- Shipper’s Responsibilities
- Identification of Hazardous Materials and Dangerous Goods
- Hazard Classes and Packing Groups
- Exceptions and Limitations
- Packing Instructions, Packaging Specifications and Performance Tests
- Marking and Labeling
Tufts Environmental Health and Safety offers this training on all campuses throughout the year as a service to our employees. We encourage you to identify any of your department staff that may need this training and see to it that they attend an upcoming session.
Class size is limited and certificates of attendance will be provided at the end of each session; Registration is required. Please contact Tufts EHS (firstname.lastname@example.org) to reserve your spot.
