Guide for the Use of Laboratory and Shop Sinks at Tufts University

Tufts University operates many laboratories and shops on the Boston, Grafton, Somerville and Medford campuses. These facilities often have sinks with a cold and hot water supply and a drain that connects to the sewer system. The primary use of sinks is as a source of water for equipment and processes. Sinks are also used to wash hands and gloves such that contaminants flow into the sink drain. All laboratory and shop sinks are posted “NOTICE DO NOT DISPOSE OF CHEMICALS IN THIS SINK.” These rules also apply to floor drains in these areas.
