ID Issuance

Students

Most students receive their University ID during First-Year Orientation and matriculation. Transfer students, graduate students, and all others not present during first-year orientation should go to the University Police station on their respective campus to be issued a University ID.

Staff/Faculty IDs

Staff and faculty must first complete and submit their Human Resources paperwork before being issued a University ID. The employee must also have been assigned an employee ID number by human resources after the submission of all paperwork. Please be aware that the new-hire paperwork takes at least 24 hours to process. After an employee ID number has been assigned, staff and faculty should go to the University Police station on their respective campus during business hours to receive their University ID.

Affiliates

Affiliates are those people who are neither paid employees of Tufts University, nor enrolled students, but who have a legitimate purpose at the university and require an ID card and/or parking permit. This group includes contractors, visiting faculty/researchers, and employees of Tufts Medical Center who require a Tufts University ID card. See Affiliate ID Authorization Process for more details.

  1. Departments having an affiliate that requires either an ID card or a Tufts parking permit shall submit the affiliate’s information to their eReg Administrator. Typically this person is part of the IT support organization or the Frontline Support Provider (FSP).
  2. The eReg Administrator will enter this information into the eReg system.
  3. Identification data entered into eReg will be automatically submitted to Public Safety by 8 AM the next business day. At that time the affiliate will be able to obtain an ID card and parking permit.
  4. Affiliates entered into eReg will remain active for up to one year. Affiliates remaining at Tufts for longer than 12 months will need to be renewed at least annually. The eReg Administrator who entered the affiliate will receive an expiration notice at least 30 days before the affiliation expires.
Affiliates entered into the eReg system will be eligible to receive a temporary Tufts ID card that will expire on the same date as their affiliation expiration. The day after the eReg record has been entered the affiliate should go to the University Police station on their respective campus during business hours to receive their temporary university ID.
